Action of Sanctuary with The Episcopal Public Policy Network
Information via Bishop Michael Hunn from the Episcopal Diocese of Rio Grande on the EPPN this week webinar: “Trump’s latest policy concerning migrants seeking asylum requires those who have presented themselves to U.S. border agents to return to Mexico until their U.S. court date. They have already passed their ‘credible fear’ interview and have been given a court date to have their asylum case heard. Prior to this latest policy, they could remain in the U.S. until their court dates, many of them staying in shelters provided by the Episcopal Diocese of the Rio Grande until they were placed with family sponsors. But not now, they must return to Juarez, in Mexico. Currently, there are three Anglican churches and Father Hector has already outfitted one to be a shelter; however, the other two churches must also be open to house the asylum seekers because the court dates given to the seekers are for March/April 2020. They can’t work during this time, but they need to be fed, clothed, children must be educated. Bishop Michael Hunn has asked for financial assistance to get this process moving. While churches are creating funds and sending donations, you too can support with money that can be sent to: Episcopal Diocese of Rio Grande, 6400 Coors Blvd NW, Albuquerque, NM 87120. 505-881-0636. Thanks!
Threaders of St. Bridget
Patti Brennan will host the Threaders of St Bridget for potluck and crafting at her home this Friday July 5 and 19 at 6pm. Please confirm at 608-208-0222 or via email — and also please feel free to bring along a friend. There will be extra yarn, knitting needled and crochet hooks in case you’re looking for inspiration and tools!
Coffee Hour Prep Person Needed
We need someone to prepare coffee and tea on Sundays starting July 7 and going through August 4. This could be done anytime after the 8am service but before the 10:30am service. If you are interested in doing this on some or any of these Sundays, please contact Michael (oriolefish@gmail.com) or Mike Ritonia at church. Thank you.
Sunday Forums
The Sunday Forums series is now on summer break, returning in September. We will continue to offer a time of fellowship with coffee and conversation with the morning's preacher at 9:15am in the auditorium. Please join us when you can!
Summer 10:30 choir
If you enjoy singing in church, why not come out each Sunday at 9:30am to help lead music with your heart and voice. We will warm up and then practice a simple psalm, the hymns, service music, and an easier anthem or hymn to share in worship. You are welcome to come any weeks you are in church, and the dress code is, of course, casual. If you have questions, please ask Michael or any choir member. Hope to sing with you soon!
Family Movie Night!
Through the summer everyone is invited to the Family Movie Night program. Every Thursday during the month on July, starting at 6:30pm (movie starts at 7pm) we will meet in the church with popcorn and soft drinks. Feel free to bring snacks to share with the group. The movies will be shown in English with Spanish subtitles. We will be screening this week: Dumbo (2019).
Eucharistic Minister Training-July 19 from 7-9pm
If you would like to be a Eucharistic Minister and help with the distribution of communion join us on Friday, evening July 19 for Eucharistic Minister training. This will be a bilingual training experience and will prepare you for this important liturgical task. This is a single class with no follow up required other than your participation in distributing the Eucharistic bread or wine. Let Fr. Sam (samdessordi@yahoo.co.uk) or Mary Alcuin Kelly (marykelly9784@yahoo.com) know of your interest.
