St. Stephen’s is a founding partner parish of the Samaritan Ministry of Greater Washington network. Every year, Samaritan Ministry helps improve the lives of more than 1,000 people who are homeless or otherwise in need through the Next Step Program. For more than 30 years, participants have been welcomed by staff and volunteers into a safe, supportive environment that allows them the freedom to choose their own goals and pursue them! They are given the resources and support they need -housing and employment search guidance, coaching, referrals to partner service providers and more- to fulfill those goals. Participants are listened to and treated like family.

Please be generous in your support of this important ministry. If you have questions or need more information, contact our partner parish representatives, Jane Bishop, ˂bishop.jane9@gmail.com˃ or Michele Lewis-Muzzatti,

˂mlewis0513@aol.com˃. Thank you!

Sunday Forums

Sunday forums are about sharing your interests, your work, your passions with the parish. Forums are a means for building community as we get to know one another and learn and grow in our faith. Please consider how you might offer a Sunday forum. Contact Susan Walker at susankwalker2@gmail.com or speak to her on a Sunday.

Pilgrimage to the Arizona Border: Ver, Pensar, Actuar (See, Think, Act)

Join the team from Diocese of Washington and the Cathedral Sanctuary Committee on a learning pilgrimage to the Arizona border. As a BorderLinks participant you will learn from people directly affected by current economic and immigration policies. Meet with humanitarian aid organizations and immigration rights advocates, walk desert trails, witness court proceedings, visit migrant shelters and detention centers and learn about community-based projects that create economic and social opportunities within immigrant communities. This is an opportunity to think critically about the systems in which we live and participate, and about our role in the construction of a more just and caring society. We will fly to Tucson on Sunday, November 10, 2019 and return on Friday, November 15. The event cost is $760 for program, room and board. Airfare is additional. If you are interested or need more information, please let Father Sam know (samdessordi@yahoo.co.uk) or contact the Rev. Sarabeth Goodwin, sgoodwin@edow.org or 202-321-6351.
