8am Holy Eucharist Rite I, the Rev. Martin Smith preaches and presides.
9:15 Forum "Christ beside me, Christ behind me, Christ beneath me, Christ within me. . .Etc!", by Martin Smith. In the ancient Celtic prayer St Patrick’s Breastplate (which we sing as the hymn “I bind unto myself today”) one verse spells out the various forms in which Christ is present to us. In our forum we will explore the physical metaphors through which we imagine presence. Each form of presence has quite different expectations and feelings associated with it, and each one suggests a distinct way of allowing Christ to connect with us in prayer. We will outline some prayer experiments to “try at home”.
10:10am Sharing the Gospel with Loaves and Fishes.
10:30am Holy Eucharistic Rite II, the Rev. Martin Smith preaches and presides.
5:30pm Spanish Eucharist. The Rev. Yoimel González Hernández preaches and the Rev. Alex Dyer presides.
The Numbers of Holy Week
Our faith tradition is filled with numbers, 40 days in the desert, 7 days of creation, well you get the picture. So it might be interesting to look at the numbers of holy week participation,, e.g. service with the largest increase over last year (Burial of the Icon) , and other numerical tidbits of interest only to the church nerds in our midst, So here goes:
8 the number of services held during Holy Week (includes Morning Prayer on Holy Saturday Morning)
610 total attendance for all services
25-35 folks who showed up to help on the many Holy Saturday tasks from polishing brass, folding up the purple draping to hanging the gold draping, flower arranging, moving furniture back in place, removing wax from the tenebrae hearse and practicing for the Easter Vigil
200+ the number of butterflies hanging on either side of the Way of Love Banner
4 the number of kinds of incense used during Holy Week services
98 the number of liturgical participants for all the services (this number does not include Eucharistic Ministers)
Gleaning together for Loaves and Fishes
The Columbia Heights Farmers Market resumes Saturday, April 20 and offers us another opportunity to glean for fresh fruits and vegetables for our guests at Loaves and Fishes. This program runs every Saturday until early December.
