Sue will share stories from her own call as a deacon and relate how the ministry of a deacon is connected to the call and ministry of both the laity and the priesthood
News from the SSI Clergy Team
by Fr. Sam Dessórdi Leite
As Senior Priest at St. Stephen and the Incarnation I have been coordinating our clergy meetings and working with my colleagues to provide pastoral care and nurture our community. From time to time our clergy serve sister churches in the diocese of Washington to fulfill their Call. Below is a message from Rev. Linda Kaufman to all of you. Let's hold her in our prayers until she is back with us again:
Beloved Friends at St. Stephen and the Incarnation.
I have been absent a lot from church for the past few months as I was interim director at Charlie's Place at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church. That gig ended last week. November 4th I start a new temporary gig at St. Thomas Parish, Dupont Circle, as their interim rector. They are on the verge of hiring a Priest in Charge but wanted someone present in the office and leading the liturgy until mid-January. I am delighted to have a brief time with our sister parish.
Please pray for the parish as they discern their next leader -- and as we celebrate the end of ordinary time, Advent and Christmas together.
I look forward to seeing you in the new year.
Much love, Linda.”
Up Coming Ordinations
We will celebrate with joy the ministries of Savannah Ponder and Jean-Pierre Seguin on their Ordination days. Everyone is welcome! Keep Savannah and Jean-Pierre in your prayers as they continue the process for Holy Orders. Ordination to the Diaconate of Savannah Ponder on November 16, 10am, at the Washington National Cathedral. Ordination to the Diaconate of Jean-Pierre Seguin on December 14, 11am, at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul, Detroit, MI.
A Weekend to Remember
The past weekend was a feast in heaven and in earth. It was a weekend to commemorate the Cloud of Witnesses (Hebrews 12, 1). We sang litanies for the departed in most services. We built altars to remember our beloved dead.
Food was served after each service to celebrate God’s presence in the church Triumphant and Militant. On Saturday, November 2, adults from our parish received the Sacrament of Confirmation and Reception, and on Sunday November 3, Greta Zimpleman received the Sacrament of Baptism just after the procession for All Saints Day, which led the congregation to enter the sacred space with joyful hearts.
