SSI Family Retreat: Survey
Roughly every 18 months, SSI families go on an overnight retreat together. It's a time to get out of our normal routines and spend time together outside of Sunday morning. The time frame we are looking at is late summer/early fall; hopefully people will be back from summer vacation and not yet busy with weekend sports activities, etc. so that everyone can join us.
In order to make arrangements, we would like to get a sense of what dates/length of a retreat people would be interested in. We are hoping we can go to a place in Maryland, roughly 1 hour and 15 minutes drive from SSI if the timing works and we can figure out the budget. Please take less than 5 minutes to consult your calendars and fill out the form found at this link: https://bit.ly/2vIna48
Continuing the Monthly Taize Service
As many of you know, Laura Moye is moving out of the country this summer and will thus be leaving St. Stephen's. It has been a real joy for her to be part of our monthly Taize worship service and she truly hope it can continue on past her time in DC. Currently, though, we are in need of at least one person (or a couple of people who could share the responsibility) to help lead the program. The service is not that hard to plan. Essentially, it is a matter of selecting about six songs and plugging their numbers into a template. More importantly, what's needed is a person who can carry a tune to help lead the singing with Michael, our illustrious music director. It's helpful if you can make a commitment to be there monthly, or share this responsibility so that each month is covered. As it has been for Laura, this is an opportunity to be part of a new ministry. Please chat with Laura Moye (firstname.lastname@example.org - 404-452-8920) or Michael Salmon if you're interested.

Please consider donating the following items and placing them in collection boxes at the back of the church:

Male toiletries: shaving cream, deodorant, soap (full size preferred)
Lotion (full size preferred)

Face cloths and towels
St. Stephen’s is a founding partner parish of the Samaritan Ministry of Greater Washington network. Every year, Samaritan Ministry helps improve the lives of more than 1,000 people who are homeless or otherwise in need through the Next Step Program. For more than 30 years, participants have been welcomed by staff and volunteers into a safe, supportive environment that allows them the freedom to choose their own goals and pursue them! They are given the resources and support they need -housing and employment search guidance, coaching, referrals to partner service providers and more- to fulfill those goals. Participants are listened to and treated like family.
Please be generous in your support of this important ministry. If you have questions or need more information, contact our partner parish representatives, Jane Bishop, ˂email@example.com˃ or Michele Lewis-Muzzatti,
˂firstname.lastname@example.org˃. Thank you!
Farewell to Yoimel
We will be saying farewell to the Rev. Yoimel González Hernández by the end of July. Although we hate to see him go, we are very happy and excited for him as he will be the new Assistant Rector at St. Alban´s church, also in Washington, DC –adjacent to the Cathedral grounds.
Yoimel arrived at the church on July 2016. One of the first projects he volunteered for was to help install the labyrinth in the sanctuary. As we got to know more about Yoimel, we found out how blessed we were to have such a talented, generous and enthusiastic member of our community. During his time here he has worked extensively with the Spanish speaking congregation and has been a helpful and reliable bridge between the Spanish and English-speaking congregations. He also applied his artistic, musical and preaching skills in a variety of ways, from helping to create many of the lovely images the church has used for a variety of occasions to building Day of the Dead ofrendas, and lots more.
As Yoimel won´t continue in his current position in our parish, we are looking for a new Bilingual Communications Coordinator. An announcement of the opening and a position description will be communicated in upcoming bulletins, email and advertised on several web sites. If you know of someone that you believe would be a good candidate for this position, please either notify Mike in the office ˂Mike@SaintStephensDC.org˃ or have them write to
