Lenten Greetings from Fr. Sam

Peace and wellness to you, my brothers and sisters in Christ,

I returned from visiting my family in Brazil this last Saturday and spent the past few days on video-conferences and phone calls with church leaders and friends in an attempt to find ways to better serve the church and those in need.

We have been in contact with our diocesan bishop and her staff, who are supporting and giving us guidance in this season of uncertainties.

All parish activities, meetings and gatherings in the Episcopal Diocese of Washington will be postponed until May 16, 2020, and right now we are working on creating ways to nurture our church community online. Although we are aware that not everyone has access to Internet, we are exploring other ways to stay in touch. Misa Alegria members, for example, are networking using their phones and the app called ‘WhatsApp’.

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness cannot overcome it

The video of the Presiding Bishop’s message is here.

The text of the Presiding Bishop’s message follows:

Presiding Bishop Michael Curry
Christmas Message 2019

In the first chapter of John's Gospel, sometimes referred to as the prologue to the Gospel, sometimes spoken of as the whole Gospel in miniature the Gospel writer says this. As he reflects on the coming of God into the world in the person of Jesus. As he reflects on Christmas. He says, the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness cannot overcome it.

I don't think it's an accident that long ago, followers of Jesus began to commemorate his coming into the world when the world seemed to be at its darkest.

It's probably not an accident that we observe Christmas soon af...
