(March 28)
8am, 10:30am, 5pm
Palms are blessed to begin the services, and the liturgy continues with the Passion—this year, Luke 22:14-23:56. The 5pm service is in Spanish.
(March 29-31)
We’ll celebrate the eucharist in the chapel at 8am the first three mornings of Holy Week.
(Wednesday, March 31)
At 7pm, we hold Tenebrae, Latin for “darkness” or “shadows”. Psalms are said or chanted, interspersed by lessons, including one from the Lamentations of Jeremiah. Candles on the altar are extinguished one by one until a single candle remains. This single candle is removed from the altar and hidden, to represent the apparent victory of the forces of evil over Christ. A loud noise is heard, reminding us of the earthquake at the time of the death of Jesus. Then, the candle is brought back, and all depart in silence.
(April 1)
At 7pm, we'll experience the ceremony of the foot washing during this bilingual service. The Eucharist this night commemorates the institution of the Holy Eucharist at the Last Supper. The service ends at the font, where the Body and Blood of Christ will be kept until the resurrection. Those who wish may keep vigil into the night. Placing the Blessed Sacrament in the font reminds us that in Baptism we are buried with Christ in his death, and through baptism we arise to new life in him.
(April 2)
The Good Friday Liturgy—with sermon and hymns, the Veneration of the Cross, and communion from the Sacrament consecrated on Maundy Thursday—is held at Noon and at 7pm. The evening service is bilingual.
(April 3)
At 10am, this is a simple service of readings and prayer. At its conclusion we prepare the sanctuary for Easter.
(Saturday, April 3, 8pm)
Saturday evening’s liturgy begins outside with the lighting of the new fire and the Paschal Candle; we then move into the church for the telling of holy history. Christ’s resurrection is announced and celebrated in the first eucharist of Easter. Afterwards, the breaking of the Lenten discipline occurs with a party (please bring food or drink to share!).
(Sunday, April 4)
8am, 10:30am, 5pm
We celebrate the resurrection of Our Lord at our regular Sunday liturgies. We will baptize three infants at the 10:30 service. The 5pm service is in Spanish.
